Standing up for standing up

Marlin’s work for Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southwest Missouri continues to receive gracious recognition. Patrick McWhirt (Senior Art Director, deep) Judith Garson (Senior Copywriter, Marlin) and Tom Kujawa (Head of Account Service, Marlin) created the campaign more than three years ago, and their tagline “Stand Up For A Child” was just selected — out of 1,000 entries from around the world — as the winner in the Civic Benefit category of the 2008 Nonprofit Tagline Award Competition.

That’s not the 2005 tagline competition, mind you, but 2008. That tag is longer-lasting than a ridiculously long-lasting piece of Stride® gum (residuals, please!). For that, we think a little standing ovation is in order for team CASA. Or, at the very least, a solid bit of sit-down, moderately loud yet earnest applause.

Marlin created the tagline, as well as television, print, outdoor and radio, to promote awareness of CASA and convince people to become special advocates. The soundtrack to the tv spot is actually a Death Cab for Cutie song (Passenger Seat), which the band gave us permission to use after viewing a rough cut while they were on tour. Just picturing these tweed-jacketed hipsters huddled over a tv monitor in their van watching our CASA spot makes us go all melty inside.

CASA of Southwest Missouri is a private, nonprofit organization that recruits, trains and supports community volunteers who assist the court in protecting the best interests of abused and neglected children in Southwest Missouri. It is, sadly, a much-needed service, and we’re honored to have done the work.
