Introducing April Speed

april

A colorful Notchweiner welcome for new Marlin Senior Art Director April Speed. Rather than present her through the needless filter of this post’s author, we’ll let her introduce herself in her own words. Take it away, April!

I’m an old, partially jaded ad gal from the City of Big Shoulders. Partially, because the crying Native American Indian littering spot still softens my soul. My roots are in the Ozarks where I grew up, went to Mizzou Journalism School and then moved on south to The Portfolio Center in  Atlanta. Back north, I landed a job at Leo Burnett and cranked out many a campaign for everything from Termicides to Tampons, Mufflers to McMuffins.

Stayed in Chi Town for the next 15 years, met my husband at the color copier and got married on the hills overlooking Table Rock Lake. When the babies came, we tired of picking up empty Colt 45 bottles and used syringes from our postage stamp-sized yard, so we packed up the mule and moved to Ozark, Missouri to be closer to the kin folk. There we restored an 1892 Craftsman and converted an old red barn into a commercial photography studio. So far, we are (somewhat) getting used to the brown recluses and the toddlers are (mostly) staying out of the poison ivy. The Speeds are known for their Hootenannies, so we hope to find some new recruits. Anyone play the jug?

We are thrilled to have April with us and promise to not make any jokes about quick turnarounds or fast revisions or speedy speediness.
