Copywriting Intern Sam Pyle hasn’t been sleeping a lot lately. It’s not that we’re working him to death. Ok, it’s not entirely that we’re working him to death. It’s more that he’s been anxiously awaiting the big day when he and his wife find out whether they’re having a Boy Baby Pyle or a Girl Baby Pyle. Bets in the office yesterday tended to favor the latter:
Some even thought there was the chance of twins (the twins force runs strong in his family). An artist’s rendering made the possibility even more possible than we thought possible. (Possible!)
Then Sam emailed and let us know the good news. It’s a girl and everything is perfecto.
Congratulations, Pyles!
Marlin is pleased to announce three new faces in our halls. And rather than put our adjective-heavy spin on these talented, talented people, we’ve decided to let them tell you all about themselves.
Allison Cash — Group Account Director
“I like Led Zeppelin; Going to California is my favorite song. Wendell Berry is my favorite essayist. I love my husband and kids and think one day maybe I’ll do Pilates. Hendrick’s gin and tonic with extra lime is my favorite extracurricular drink. I have been in communications 15 years and stretching the truth for at least 9.”
Allison, for those of you paying attention, previously worked at our sister agency, deep. Which explains the “two and a half” reference (and here you thought we were just big Charlie Sheen fans). Now, Agatha!
Agatha Lesiew— Account Executive
“I grew up in Kenya (East Africa) and come from the tribe that always wins marathons. That gene must have skipped me! I came to the states 10 years ago to go to SMSU (then transferred to Drury, where I graduated from). I moved back to Springfield to join Marlin, having been in Kansas City for the past two years working on the print production side. I love to play tennis and I own/am owned by my little yorkie Rafiki (which means friend in Kiswahili).”
Jeff Hedrick — Account Service Intern
“College attended: Still attending Evangel University.(Senior advertising major, middle linebacker for football team, manager/designer of Excalibur yearbook.)
Years in the advertising business: 3 weeks?
I joined Marlin after traveling the world throughout the month of May. (Russia, Kyrgyzstan, New York, California, Michigan — 32,000 miles/12 flights)
I can’t wait until I am old and living in a log cabin in the mountains with my wife, where the highlight of the year will be hopping in our RV and taking a trip to Branson. I have a season pass to Silver Dollar City.”
Welcome Allison, Agatha and Jeff. We are incredibly happy to have you.
It turns out that St. Louis is good for more than tasty pizza and smelly alleys. Apparently, it also produces pretty keen designers (yes, our word-of-the-day calendar from the 50’s is working quite well, thank you). After a short, college-degree-getting stop at Missouri State, Bethany is going to be joining Marlin as our newest design intern. She might not get any benefits or a vacation, but she does get a seat at the bullpen and her very own bucket for bathroom breaks.
Not shown: Bucket.

More importantly, did you even know we had a sister agency? It’s true. Though the fine folks at deep are maybe less like family and more like great co-workers who, I don’t know, work in a building about a mile south of Marlin. Yep, that’s what they’re like.
So they’ve got a blog, these fine deep people. And it’s funny. There are Cosby sweaters and Garfields and more Cosby sweaters and various abuses of John Rutkowski’s head.
So go. Enjoy. And while you’re there, ask them what the hell thetangibleintangible means. But you should probably wear a hat or something, because it might just blow your mind!

Objects in photo are not as crazy as they appear. Or as heavily faded.
We at Marlin are pleased to announce the promotion of Sam Pyle, a plucky Mizzou graduate, from unemployed to employed. Sure, the hours are worse but you can’t beat the increase in pay, even if we just use him as a wishing well and throw pennies at him willy-nilly (which is in his contract). So, if you happen to be walking through our halls and you see a very nervous copywriting intern with penny-shaped bruises on his forehead, be sure to congratulate him.
Welcome one Quentin Brown to Marlin as Design Intern. Quentin is a scrappy, young designer fresh from Drury University and we’re glad to have him in the bullpen. Here he is imitating his favorite internet pastime—lolcats. (Ok, hot rods are more his thing. But we’ve got the jpg and we’re dying to use it somewhere.)
We’re pleased to announce that Rob Nelson has joined our ranks as Account Group Director. Rob brings 14 years of experience in both the food and equipment categories, and his vast knowledge of the foodservice industry is rivaled only by his quiet yet stinging wit.
He will lead a group of accounts that initially includes Heinz Foodservice and Sweet Street Desserts. Welcome aboard, Rob!
We’re pleased to welcome Jonathan to the design crew here at Marlin. He might only be coming in part-time, but his contributions are definitely full-on. (Get it? Part? Full? Yeah!)
Jill Fannin, Senior Account Executive here at Marlin, and her husband, Travis, became the proud parents of Jackson Carter on February 26th. We’ll miss Jill while she’s out on maternity leave, but we look forward to teaching little Jackson how to estimate an ad campaign.
